February Breezes

Manzanillo from the hotel La Posada (Feb 2005)

Last February we went to Mexico to have a break from cold weather and to visit Colima. It was Paul's first visit to both Manzanillo and the city and state of Colima. Colima is the city where Martha was raised and where both she and Adam graduated from college.

I have a lot of wonderful memories of Colima over the years - meeting their friends, their friend's parents, of course Martha and her warm and welcoming family. Colima is a delightful city - very clean and friendly. The main square is beautiful, with a lovely old kiosko in the center and tropical plantings that are absolutely glorious. Especially in February!

Our visit was wonderful. We spent several days in Manzanillo in an older resort on the beach. We had rented a car, and from Manzanillo we drove inland about 45 minutes to the city of Colima. It was fun to stay in the centro at Hotel Ceballos - an old restored hotel that I'd stayed in with the rest of the family when Adam and Martha were married - in another February! (see below)

We drove all over - staying in Comala for several days and jaunting about the countryside trying to see everything we could in the week we had available. Why is there never enough time to do everything you want to when you're on vacation? Martha had even arranged for realtor friends to show us property so we could get an idea of housing prices for our possible future retirement life there.

The reason I am bringing this up is that I have hit the February doldrums when I am absolutely fed up with the cold, dull landscape, and the depressing thoughts of endless more months of cold and damp.

So, take a look at the photos above, and take a big breath of the tropical air. I can almost feel the warmpth.
