An Eerie Read
I just re-read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. (#27) I had read this book for the first time in about 8th grade, and remembered little about it except that it was about a time in the future when owning books was illegal. The book is so much more than that!
One of the things I found eerie was that lying and manipulation of the facts by public officials was common and accepted. Eerie, right?
The addiction of the general population on television, inane, loud, pseudo-hilarious television, was widespread. People would obey whatever the announcers would tell them to do. Eerie, right?
Television news followed real-time "crimes" as they were happening. The populace watched as though the unfolding drama was fiction. Eerie, right?
The strength of the underground managing to hold onto ethical values in the face of a government with almost immeasurable power was uplifting and thankfully successful. A hearty Hurrah! for those who don't blindly accept the status quo.
