Having this new puppy has been wonderful - Henry is sweet and well behaved. Lucy and Angus are warily accepting sometimes, enthusiastically playing with him at others. All in all, both Paul and I are enjoying the experience.
It does make me think about how great it would have been to have children with Paul, or to have met him earlier in my life so we could have raised ours together. I think both Phil and Adam would have loved and benefited from a big sister, too, since Jessica is six months older than Phil.
Paul and I are both loving and firm, consistent and fair. We truly want to be with them, and spend a lot of money to keep them healthy - I think we are excellent doggy parents.
Every experience in a person's life contributes to their development - so I am aware that who I am now and the parenting style I would have (or do have, to our dogs) has a lot to do with the experiences I've had over the last umpteen years. It's fun to raise nice dogs, and I just wonder what kind of kids we would have had together. Sigh.
