Birdland!

Maya and Tiko at their dishes

Here's breakfast...cooked beans, leftover macaroni and cheese, beans, peas, apple, dried pears.

We love our birds, Tiko and Maya. Tiko is a yellow-shouldered Amazon, and Maya is a Maximillian Pionus.

Maya was our first bird - and she was a perfect first bird, quiet and undemanding. She has some quirks - such as only eating her fruit and vegetables probably two days a week and she does not talk. She does some kind of conversational noises, and a loud screech when she sees Paul's car coming down the driveway. She is a sweetie, though, and will come right over if she thinks you're going to scratch her head. (All you have to do is say "pretty" and make a scratching motion with your finger)

Tiko is about a year and a half old. We have had him for a year now. He is super outgoing and talks a blue streak. He is game for anything, except he doesn't like it when Maya comes too close when they are on the same cage or stand.

Their cages are in a niche in our kitchen. We like them there because our large, open kitchen is where we spend a lot of time...so they get a lot more attention than they did when we had them in a separate room.

When I uncover their cages in the morning I go about my business - making coffee, eating breakfast, browsing the web, etc. while they wake up. Tiko usually talks to himself...and here is an audio file of some of his ramblings...there's a kind of screeching sound in the middle that is actually his imitation of our espresso machine! (Our voices in the background were getting picked up from the other room) Enjoy!
