Was it a Wasted Weekend or a Perfect Weekend?

Well, I did it again. Altogether too much reading and too little work has been done around this place by yours truly lately. This house hasn't had more that what my grandmother called "a lick and a promise" in quite a while. Vacuuming is the only must-do chore around here - without a good vacuuming a couple of times a week the feathers and dog hair would be intolerable!

Angus is still hanging in there. He needs his doggie aspirin to stay somewhat comfortable but he still barks at deer and eats like he's starving twice a day.

My best friend sent me two books in the mail this week - The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio by Terry Ryan and The Lady and the Panda by Vicki Constantine Croke. What a treat! And what a treat to have a best friend who reads, shares books, and who has been my best friend for almost forty years! I am so lucky!

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio by Terry Ryan (book #56) was a fun book that I read in about 5 hours. I just couldn't put it down! It's a true account of a mother of 10 who mostly supported her family writing jingles and winning contests in the 1950's and 60's. She was a strong woman with a positive attitude in the face of adversity - an alcoholic husband, her own clumsiness, and never enough money to go around. Thank you, Jeannie!

Love and Other-Near-Death Experiences by Mil Milington (book #55) was wonderful. I love books that are funny, where the characters are unusual and irreverent. This book revolves around Rob, a young man who is late to an appointment and hence is not killed in an explosion. The people he meets and the ensuing drama is sometimes hilarious and very well done. I laughed out loud a lot and was constantly reading parts of it to Paul even though he just HAS to read it, too. So should you!
