This morning I had about twenty pages left of Sarah Dunant's Mapping the Edge, (#30) and instead of doing chores around here as I usually do, I sat down on the couch. Sitting down means that immediately three dogs join me for their favorite pastime, sleeping. So I finished the book, and when I left for work I was in a decidedly more relaxed frame of mind than I usually am. Maybe I'll make a habit of it.
It seems amazing to me that I've read thirty books since the first of the year. I started the 50 Book Challenge not to challenge myself to some sort of speed reading marathon but more just to keep track for my own knowledge.
Mapping the Edge was a really interesting read for me. I usually don't like books that have too much suspense in them because I have a tendency to have the more suspenseful bits keep me awake or make me too nervous. Don't even think of suggesting that I watch a suspenseful movie, either. When they get the least bit nerve-wracking, I get up and leave the room. (I think I watched about ten minutes total of Kill Bill.)
But Mapping the Edge was wonderful, and I made it through the suspenseful parts because I sincerely wanted to know how it all was going to come out. Plus, I learned that the world won't come to an end if I sit down and read with some sleeping dogs before work.
