Above is a red headed sapsucker that must live nearby since he frequents the trees around our house most of the year. I was a bit worried that we wouldn't see him around since we removed his beloved walnut tree, but here he is - happily digging for bugs in the Japanese maple just outside the kitchen.
Pretty soon he'll proceed to pounding away on the roof trying to attract a mate!
I finished An Alphabet for Gourmets by MFK Fisher (book #13) this afternoon. I enjoyed it a lot, but of the five books of hers I have read recently, The Gastronomical Me was by far my favorite.
